CFO Thinus Mulder of Dark Fibre Africa Talks Finance and Building Carrier Neutral Open Access Ducting Infrastructures
San Diego, CA, February 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dark Fibre Africa provides an open access network commissioned by licensed telecom and internet operators.
Dark Fibre Africa (DFA) started rolling out its network in metropolitan areas in October 2007. The company was established by Community Investment Ventures CIV, Remgro, ABSA Capital and CMD Communications to build a carrier neutral, dark fibre infrastructure for the transmission of metro and long haul telecommunications traffic.
“Although dark fibre is a fairly old concept in Europe, it is a relatively new technology in South Africa. Open access to this technology enables companies to increase their operations without spending a large amount of capital, something which wasn’t possible in South Africa’s previous telecommunications market,” says Thinus Mulder, DFA’s Chief Financial Officer.
Initial capital expenditure, efficient deployment of capital, and cost of ownership are important aspects of DFA’s forward-thinking business plan.
“The comprehensive package of a secure, managed ducting infrastructure with 24/7 fault monitoring, service level agreements, interfaces to roads and metro authorities and accurate documentation, enables providers of telecommunications to reduce operational costs and apply funds to activities that provide a competitive advantage,” points out Mulder.
