UPEACE-US Launches Alumni Coordination Team

The U.S. Association for the University for Peace (UPEACE-US) announces the launch of the University for Peace Alumni Coordination Team (UPACT). UPACT will coordinate the global alumni outreach campaign and engage in fundraising and advocacy activities in support of the United Nations mandated University for Peace (UPEACE).

Washington, DC, February 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The U.S. Association for the University for Peace (UPEACE-US) announces the launch of the University for Peace Alumni Coordination Team (UPACT). UPACT will coordinate the global alumni outreach campaign that will culminate in the development of the UPEACE alumni association. The team will also engage in fundraising and advocacy activities in support of the University for Peace (UPEACE).

“UPACT is an innovative and exciting approach to engage the growing number of UPEACE alumni in the world and we look forward seeing it succeed,” said Nicholas C. Martin, Co-Director of UPEACE-US.

UPACT will develop an electronic newsletter and interactive website with alumni profiles, news about UPEACE, and career opportunities. A network of country representatives will support alumni in more than 70 countries and collaborate on educational and development projects with local and national partners.

“UPEACE is one of the most diverse and multicultural institutions in the world today,” said Martin. “And yet because UPEACE limits its enrollment to just over 130 students a year, its graduates develop deep relationships across all kinds of cultural boundaries. UPACT will enable this impressive alumni body to stay connected and help to develop longstanding architecture for a ‘network for peace’ that is able to respond effectively to emerging conflicts by drawing on the collective personal and professional resources of the network.”

The U.S. Association for the University for Peace (UPEACE-US) is a 501(c)(3) public charity established to promote the mission and programs of the United Nations mandated University for Peace, an international organization headquartered near San Jose, Costa Rica. The University's mission is to create peace through higher education on a global level.
