World’s Second-Largest Coral Reef, Iguanas and Tree Planting Await Eco-Tourists in Cozumel This Spring Break

Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, a popular destination for families and eco-tourists, prepares to welcome Spring Break visitors.

Cozumel, Mexico, March 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, a popular destination for families and eco-tourists, prepares to welcome Spring Break visitors from around the world with scuba diving adventures, kid-friendly activities and more.

One of the biggest attractions in Cozumel is the famous Palancar Reef, part of the second-largest coral reef. Here divers come up close to hundreds of species of colorful tropical fish, breathtaking wall drop-offs, towering coral pinnacles that stretch for miles and underwater caves and tunnels.

In fact, Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa and its on-site dive shop, Scuba Du, recently were recognized by the National Geographic Society for their efforts to maintain the pristine nature of the reefs, located just a short boat ride from the resort.

In addition, all Scuba Du’s Dive Masters are Marine Park licensed and provide pre-dive instruction to ensure visits to Cozumel’s reef system cause little or no impact.

When back on land, Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa’s Chiqui Club experience allows eco-tourists-to-be the opportunity to feed and care for harmless, free-roaming iguanas – some up to three-feet long – right on the property.

Chiqui Club kids feed iguanas with grapes and lettuce leaves as they walk the beachfront resort in search of these indigenous creatures. Kids learn about survival skills of iguanas, where they like to sun bathe and how they are cared for at the property. Kids also spend time at the resort’s three Iguana Temples, tunneled structures built by the resort to provide iguanas the ideal resting spot.

Besides getting up close with iguanas, Chiqui Club kids plant trees in the resort’s nursery. Every Chiqui Club participant is presented with a name plaque to mark their plant. When ready, the trees are transplanted to other areas of the property to replenish the tropical surroundings.

There is no cost to participate in the Chiqui Club and the iguana care program is also open to curious parents who want to experience these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat.
