DiscDish.com Honors Movies Overlooked by Award Ceremonies

Website’s new column celebrates films in unconventional categories

Austin, TX, March 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The movie awards season is over, but DiscDish.com recognized that some important award categories were overlooked. Determined to fix the oversight, the website has honored a number of films with 17 new awards.

Among the categories are:

The “Going Commando” Award for best use of underwear as a strategic device in an action film — Angelina Jolie in Salt

The “I Need a Shower” Award for creepiest sex scenes involving a laboratory-produced creature in a science-fiction thriller — Splice

The “That’s Not My Elbow” Award for most claustrophobic film of the year — Lebanon

The “Hair Apparent” Award for best beard in an independent film — Robert Duvall in Get Low

The “I Think I Know Where This Is Going” Award for the feature film title that best gives away the story line — Eat Pray Love

The full list, available on DiscDish.com, includes many more honors.

DiscDish.com’s awards are part of a new column called Today’s Special, in keeping with the website’s movie diner theme. In Today’s Special, the DiscDish.com editors dish on the latest in pop culture, with a DVD and Blu-ray spin.

The column also features the newest addition to the DiscDish.com team, Chris Koseluk, a journalist who has written about the entertainment industry for numerous magazines and newspapers, including The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Premiere and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Launched in February 2010, the fast-growing DiscDish.com was created by veteran home entertainment editors Samantha Clark and Laurence Lerman, formerly of Video Business magazine. Together with the website’s expert DVD and Blu-ray reviewers, the DiscDish.com staff has more than 50 years experience in the movie industry. The site is different from other movie and home entertainment websites in that it not only covers all the biggest mainstream films on disc, it also is a curator of the best in indie and cult films.

DiscDish.com also features interviews with the talents behind the scenes and in front of the camera, including actors, directors and writers, and runs regular contests and giveaways for new and classic DVD and Blu-ray releases.
