Lions Convention Focuses on Being United in the Mission 'We Serve'
This Conference enabled Lion leaders and general members to meet other with cohorts from around our District and discuss new ideas that will help all the Lions Clubs of this area
Northern Virginia, VA, March 03, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Lions Clubs from around the NOVA region attended the Lions Clubs District 24-A Winter Conference in Fairfax, VA last weekend. There were 247 Lions and Partners who participated in the event that drew representatives from 44 Clubs across northern Virginia.
According to Dennis Bringing, current District Governor, “This Conference enabled Lion leaders and general members to meet other with cohorts from around our District and discuss new ideas that will help all the Lions Clubs of this area better meet the needs of the community at large.”
Keynote Speaker Colonel Maurice Clemons, recently returned from Iraq, shared his inspirational story of leading through adversity. The heart of his speech was on believing in and focusing on the mission. Noting the acronym LDRSHIP, Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service, Honor, Integrity, and Purpose as something he clearly could see Lions Clubs were trying to achieve in the communities around them.
During the general session, the Virginia Lions Eye Institute (VLEI) scholastic grant committee gave seven grants to worthy recipients helping to enable them gain independence through learning.
Additional conference highlights included training seminars on Social Networking, Vehicle Donation, Club Excellence, Web Design, Working with Youth, Public Speaking, World Health and the Fight Against River Blindness, Vision Therapy and Public Relations.
“It is always exciting to me to be able to congregate with so many Lions from around our District. As the Colonel pointed out, united we can accomplish so much. I am looking forward to finishing this year with a roar,” said District Governor Dennis Brining.
