Asia Plantation Capital Leads Sri Lanka Flood Relief Effort
British company Plantation Capital Plc. was one of the first companies to provide aid and support to the flood victims caught up in the Sri Lanka flood disaster in January and February.
Hong Kong, Hong Kong S.A.R., March 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Asia Plantation Capital, which has offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, provided logistical support from it's local estate that they manage at Welikanda, one of the worst affected areas, with many villagers taking shelter within the estate, which is above the flood plains.
Clients and Directors of Plantation Capital Plc. provided donations to purchase much needed necessities of blankets, food and medications which were then distributed directly to victims by lorries and tractors belonging to Asia Plantation Capital.
This effort was supported by the son of the Sri Lankan President, Namal Rajapakse, who personally handed out the aid alongside Asia Plantation directors Manjula Perera and Caniut Silva, supported by local MP Roshan Ranasingha.
Asia Plantation Capital received a letter from Mr. Roshan stating:-
"Please accept our heartfelt thanks for the memorable assistance made by your company under the guidance of myself on very short notice. It was a tremendous assistance for the victims who have faced this natural disaster in the Pollonaruwa and Welikanda areas and we managed to donate with our own hands with the support of your officials and thereby can testify the aid reached the victims direct".
Mr. Roshan then went on to officially thank the company and its employees on behalf of the government for their support.
During the floods Asia Plantation Capital's own management and employees were themselves cut off at the Welikanda Estate by the surrounding flood waters, and had to travel through the night to collect and return with the relief effort from Colombo. This was a strong example of local communities and business pulling together at times of adversity.
The company is continuing to provide ongoing support to the rebuilding effort and is available to support the government in any way it can with the post flood relief effort. The relief effort is now under way, helping support the victims and returning the region to normality. The company has in the past built houses and provided material support to war victims families in the area as well.
