South Nassau Communities Hospital Food Services Manager Receives Prestigious Sodexo Award
Mr. Alexander was selected from a pool of more than 100 Sodexo general managers nominated for the award and who work at New York metropolitan area hospitals and health systems.
Oceanside, NY, March 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Sodexo Worldwide, Inc., recently announced that John Alexander, general manager of food and nutrition services at South Nassau Communities Hospital, is a recipient of its Manager of the Year Develops People Award.
Mr. Alexander was selected from a pool of more than 100 Sodexo general managers nominated for the award and who work at New York metropolitan area hospitals and health systems. He received the award in recognition of his customer and client focused leadership acumen, diversity awareness, budget management and communications skills.
“John leads by example and action so that our culinary team is steadfast in its commitment to providing the patients and staff at South Nassau Communities Hospital with the very best food services that can be found anywhere,” said Bill Ulrich, Vice President of facilities management at South Nassau. “He is absolutely deserving of this award, and the entire South Nassau team joins me in saluting him for this achievement.”
Since 2005, when Mr. Alexander was named general manager at South Nassau, patient satisfaction in food services has increased more than 5 points and hospital cafeteria sales have increased approximately five percent annually. This is due in part to two programs he implemented: an Ambassador program that orients patients to the process of ordering food at the hospital; and a customer feedback program that identifies the foods and beverages the cafeteria should offer.
Two particular standouts of the many initiatives spearheaded by Mr. Alexander are an ergonomics program that has decreased repetitive use ailments and injuries among cafeteria personnel, and a waste recycling awareness and action project in support of the hospital’s sustainability and conservation efforts.
