New, Interactive Way to See Boston...by Way of a Scavenger Hunt Tour
Move over, walking tours! Bostonians and tourists alike will get a new way to experience Beantown when Stray Boots Scavenger Hunts launches Boston: The Game later this month, with free tickets until the end of March. The Game, already a hit in New York and Las Vegas, is a cell phone-guided scavenger hunt played entirely by text message. It gives players an in-depth look at a neighborhood (or "game zone"), including hidden gems and insights even natives don't know about.
Boston, MA, March 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In just a few weeks, locals and tourists will have a new way to experience Boston, through a cell phone-guided scavenger hunt lush with fun and facts. "Boston: The Game - The Scavenger Hunt Tour" is a spin-off of New York: The Game, which has been showing people around the Big Apple since 2009. In both versions, customers receive challenges by text message that take them to interesting spots around their neighborhood of choice, teaching them fun facts about the area as they go.
"While The Game is accessible to tourists, we've found that even locals come away having learned something new about their city," says Avi Millman, co-founder and President of Stray Boots. "But the interactive nature of the scavenger hunt keeps the experience fun. Even kids and teens enjoy learning when they're playing a game instead of listening to a lecture."
The March launch will include tours of Beacon Hill and the Back Bay, with a Downtown Boston zone planned for later in the spring. "The Beacon Hill tour has a historic focus," says Millman, "including stops along the Freedom Trail, Louisberg Square, quaint shops along Charles Street, Boston Common and the Massachusetts State House." The Back Bay tour will have a more modern character, including the Prudential Center and the Berklee College of Music, but also covers landmarks such as Copley Square and Trinity Church, as well as scenic mansions along Commonwealth Avenue.
At each stop, players receive a challenge or clue on their cell phone; upon completing the challenge, they receive a fun fact about Boston and its history. "You play at your own pace," explains co-founder Scott Knackmuhs. "You can stop for a hot chocolate at a cute café or to wander down an interesting side street, and start again whenever you're ready."
Players can begin at any time simply by purchasing tickets online at the Boston: The Game website (www.bostonthegame.com) and activating their phone by texting in a ticket code. "It's a totally new way to explore Boston," Millman says. "It's easy and it's fun, and we guarantee you'll have a great time."
Having launched in New York City in 2009 and kicked off their Vegas spinoff at the beginning of February 2011, Stray Boots is eyeing a number of cities along the Eastern Corridor. Following its Boston launch, the Company has plans to reach Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. before the summer.
