Ballet Tech Cincinnati on the Move

Cincinnati, OH, February 19, 2007 --(PR.com)-- ballet tech cincinnati announced that its Board of Directors recently approved a five year lease to occupy 6543 Montgomery Road in Kennedy Heights. ballet tech cincinnati received major sponsorship funding from the Stillson Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee, and recently added three new Board members.

ballet tech cincinnati will move into its new home, the former Mr. Kelley’s building in the center of Kennedy Heights that had been vacant for over twelve years, after rehab construction is completed in a couple of months. GBBN Architects developed the architectural renderings of the new facility, which will include dance studios, offices, community space and a theater. Joseph T. Schwab, principal of GBBN Architects, Inc. and the leader of GBBN's performing arts market area explains, "GBBN is pleased to support ballet tech cincinnati in this worthy project. We commend them on their services - dance classes, literacy programs, etc. - that they offer to all people in our community. We trust that the images and planning services that we provided to ballet tech cincinnati will help them to realize their mission to educate, entertain and inspire."

The Stillson Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee, gave ballet tech cincinnati’s Leaping for Literacy Project a vote of confidence when it awarded a $15,000 sponsorship grant to support the project. Leaping for Literacy uses the art of dance and Reading Workshops in collaboration with United Way’s Success by Six Shared Reading Initiative to break the cycle of illiteracy in Greater Cincinnati families. Heidi Jark, vice president and manager of The Foundation Office at Fifth Third Bank, said, "Hermine Stillson was dedicated to helping local kids. As Trustee of her foundation, we are pleased to support ballet tech cincinnati’s Leaping for Literacy project, which will make a huge impact in improving literacy among local children and give them the tools to succeed later in life." The Leaping for Literacy Aronoff production of Made in America on May 4-5, 2007, will take audience members on a journey through time and across our nation with inspiring stories of courageous American youth based on the “Dear America,” “American Girl,” and “My Name is America” book series. The project includes free public performances at community libraries and bookstores, School Performances for Cincinnati Arts Association’s Artists on Tour, a poster and poetry contest open to all area children, a free, downloadable parent/teacher guide, monthly Dialogic Reading Workshops in collaboration with Success by Six Shared Reading Initiative, weekly “Dance it out” sessions, and a book giveaway.

Three new members recently joined the Board of Directors at ballet tech cincinnati. Carlos Reid, Michael Beck and Susan Gertz are new board members working towards the mission and strategic initiatives of the organization. Carlos Reid, an entrepreneur and graduate of Cincinnati’s School of Creative and Performing Arts, joined the Board late last year. Michael Beck, founder of MidwestLatino, 2006 recipient of the prestigious "Nuestra Familia" award from Ohio Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs and “2006 Spirit of Cincinnati” Wendell P. Dabney Award for Diversity, given by the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau for the practice of diversity and inclusion, joined Board of Directors in January. Susan Gertz, an attorney in private practice in Reading, has legal experience in Loveland and Hamilton, and several years of non-profit experience. She joined the Board in February.

The newest dance company in Cincinnati, ballet tech cincinnati recently moved from the far north suburbs to Kennedy Heights and formalized a strategic collaboration with the Kennedy Heights Arts Center to produce community oriented arts programming. Classes and workshops at the Pleasant Ridge Library and Kennedy Heights Arts Center started in January, including Leaping for Literacy Dialogic Reading Workshops and weekly “Dance it Out” sessions where children depict the stories they have read in dance, Movement Discovery, Mommy & Me and Beginning Ballet for children, Youth Dance, “Mad Kennedy Heights Ballroom” Recreational Ballroom Dancing and Hip Hop Dance for tweens/teens, Ballet and Latin Dance for adults. After the move into the new building, additional classes will include jazz, tap, modern, tumbling/gymnastics, drama, sewing/costuming, make-up, and master class/workshops with world renowned guest teachers.

The dance company, which presents a season series of excellent, diverse and innovative dance performances as a resident company at downtown Cincinnati’s premier venue, the Aronoff Center, and about a dozen community performances all over the Tri-State area, opened its 6th season in September with a well-received production of La Sylphide at the Aronoff Center and continues with Aronoff productions of the Leaping for Literacy production, Made in America, a journey through time and across our nation with inspiring stories of courageous American youth on May 4-5, 2007 and the Gala of International Ballet Stars featuring the best dancers, best companies, best choreography in the world on August 11, 2007.

The mission of ballet tech cincinnati is to educate, entertain and inspire by providing diverse and innovative performances that have a phenomenal community impact. Founded in 1997, ballet tech cincinnati is a non-profit 501 (C ) (3) organization located in Kennedy Heights. ballet tech cincinnati opened its sixth Season Series of major dance programs as a resident company at the Aronoff Center and presents about a dozen community performances each year to provide Greater Cincinnati with a new venue for high quality dance performances featuring pre-professional and professional dancers featuring classical and contemporary repertoire, folk dances and a wide variety of artists, dance styles and music. Dance 2 Community Kids community outreach program engages sponsor companies and individuals to partner with them to introduce youth from underserved communities to dance and the Aronoff Center to expand the audience for the arts and downtown Cincinnati venues. Over 1000 children have attended ballets in this outreach. Each year, the Leaping for Literacy Project includes a spring production based on beloved children’s stories to entertain families with children of all ages. This project also includes Cincinnati Arts Association Artists on Tour performances in area schools, free outreach performances in area libraries and bookstores, a poster and poetry contest, and a book giveaway to promote family literacy. Last season, they served over 10,000 audience members, double the audience for the 2004-2005 season. They have the most diverse audience of any Cincinnati area presenter, and they are the only company that presents guest companies, an international Gala, and preprofessional dancers as part of their season series.
