New York, NY, March 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Great Conductors Series
Ferenc Fricsay in Rehearsal & In Concert–
Smetana: The Moldau
Kultur is proud to announce another new release in the Great Conductors Series, Ferenc Fricsay in Rehearsal & In Concert– Bedrich Smetana: The Moldau on DVD available March 29, 2011, for a suggested retail price of $19.99.
This is a historic behind-the-scenes portrait of the legendary conductor Ferenc Fricsay. As director Dieter Ertel makes clear in his brief introduction to this memorable interpretation of Smetana’s The Moldau, the Hungarian-born Austrian conductor Ferenc Fricsay was already a very sick man at the time this recording was made. He was to die just three years later in 1963. Fricsay’s extreme passion- a combination of rhythmic pulse and emotional restraint – serves him particularly well here. Moreover, his rehearsal of the separate sections of the orchestra on their own, reveal several hidden “chamber music-like highlights of Smetana’s score. The end result is one of the most exiting performances ever of this famous work.
