Church Disaster Preparedness Top Priority for WCEPC

WCEPC is committed to raising awareness on the often overlooked area of disaster preparedness by reaching out to pastors and their congregations. The initiative is aimed at maximizing community readiness when disaster strikes.

Los Angeles, CA, March 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The West Coast Emergency Preparedness Center (WCEPC) is the only provider in the region specializing in disaster preparedness training and consultation to churches who desperately seek to prepare for the next major natural disaster. For too long churches have been without such a resource such as WCEPC leaving them to fend for themselves but that has all changed in recent years as disaster preparedness has come to the forefront as a result of numerous large scale disasters across the globe.

It is a well known fact that most churches are unprepared for a major disaster having no response teams in place to act when a disaster strikes. It is also common knowledge that after a major disaster, the surrounding community will look to the church for shelter, food and medical care. It is absolutely crucial that support systems be in place especially in Los Angeles as the next big quake is projected to be a magnitude 8 or greater causing widespread damage and injuries/death. Having church response teams trained in basic first aid and other skills will help overburdened first responders already assisting the injured. It is very likely that after a major disaster, emergency responders may not be seen for at least 72 hours or more which means that churches and their congregations need to be self reliant.

One day seminars are being offered to churches and their congregations. The number goal for WCEPC is to educate churches that disaster preparedness is a lifestyle, not a fad.

The training center also helps churches create and implement first response teams for services and holiday events by utilizing volunteer members of its body. It is crucial that churches have a complete readiness program that covers disaster response to medical response during services.
