Japan Quake Puts Disaster Preparedness in Perspective

As a result of the devastating earthquake in Japan, West Coast Emergency Preparedness Center (http://www.wcepc.org) is urging citizens, businesses and churches to take disaster preparedness more seriously. It is a well known fact that most people, businesses and churches are not prepared as they should be for an earthquake or major natural disaster.

Los Angeles, CA, March 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Japan was struck by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake on 3/10/11 triggering a 20 to 30 foot tsunami killing 200 to 300 civilians just minutes after the initial shock. This is the largest known earthquake to strike Japan since records have been kept. Videos populating the media show the destructiveness of such a quake.

What is occurring in Japan is projected to happen here in Southern California when the San Andreas fault slips resulting in a magnitude 8 or greater quake. Scientists and geologists all agree that it is just a matter of time and time should not be wasted when it comes to preparedness. Although Southern California has some of the most strict building codes, there are numerous structures that are not up to code which could result in widespread damage and injuries/death region wide.

West Coast Emergency Preparedness Center is urging everyone to take training classes in disaster preparedness, first aid, CPR, Triage and more. CERT teams are being encouraged to take the Emergency Medical Responder course to bolster their skills. The center offers classes and seminars throughout Southern California and has now stepped up operations to fulfill the demand of requests for such classes and training.
