World Team Poker’s Championship Event to be Held at South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa

Los Angeles, CA, March 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- World Team Poker’s Championship Event will be held at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa on May 24, 25 and 26, 2011. Teams currently scheduled to play the three day event include Team Australia, Team Brazil, Team Canada, Team China, Team Cyprus, Team England, Team Germany, Team Greece, Team Iran, Team Israel, Team Italy, Team Korea, Team Lebanon, Team New Zealand, Team Pakistan, Team Russia, Team Spain, Team Ukraine, Team Vietnam, Team USA and a Wild Card team of celebrities captained by Dr. Jerry Buss.

Other teams have expressed their interest in playing and are finalizing their rosters and schedules with the hopes of participating, including Team Caribbean Islands, Team Costa Rica, Team Denmark, Team India, Team Mexico, Team Norway, Team Philippines and Team Wales.

In addition to playing “team versus team” instead of “individual versus individual,” World Team Poker’s tournaments will also be “country versus country” competition, and anyone who has watched the Ryder Cup golf matches, the Olympics, or World Cup soccer knows the intensity and interest this generates. World Team Poker tournaments have other entertaining differences between the tournaments now appearing on television. In World Team Poker tournaments, team captains are allowed to coach team members on correct play strategy, and they can also substitute team members while a tournament is in process. Finally, the “final tables” of tournaments now appearing on television are frequently comprised of unknown amateur players, whereas the World Team Poker’s teams are all comprised of professional poker players, most of whom are well-known, particularly in the countries they represent.

World Team Poker’s Inaugural Event
Team China won World Team Poker’s Inaugural Event last year after an epic 19 hour poker marathon, beating seven teams of the best players in the world. Co-Captains Johnny Chan and David Chiu, and team members Derek Cheung, Chau Giang, Maria Ho, Winfred Yu and Rich Zhu, worked together to bring the win to China. At the Championship Event, Team China will have to defend its title against no fewer than 15 teams from around the world. Team China’s formidable players, experience, tenacity and patience will be difficult to beat.

World Team Poker League Matches
Going forward, World Team Poker will hold a tournament in four geographic regions: The Americas League, the European League, the Mediterranean League and the Pacific League. The year will culminate with an annual World Team Poker Championship similar to the Super Bowl or the finals of the World Series or NBA playoffs.

First up will be the Pacific League Match, which will take place in Macau in the fall, followed by the Americas League Match in Brazil, the Mediterranean League Match in Greece and the European Match in London.

Each of these events will be filmed for television.
