American Student Dental Association House of Delegates Elects 2011-2012 Executive Committee and Speaker of the House of Delegates

Chicago, IL, March 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- During its Annual Session in Anaheim, CA, ASDA’s House of Delegates – 116 dental students from across the U.S. – elected its 2011-2012 Executive Committee and Speaker of the House. All leaders have been involved in organized dentistry on both national and local levels in past years and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Association.

Adam Shisler, University of Texas Dental Branch ‘12, was elected president of ASDA. Shisler served as District 9 Trustee in addition to participating on the ASDA Council on Education and Council on Sessions in 2010. Previously, he was the UTDB ASDA chapter president and was appointed to the Greater Houston Dental Society’s Board of Directors as the sole student representative. Prior to dental school, Shisler spent two years in the Teach for America program. He currently serves as a student member on the Texas Dental Association House of Delegates and as ASDA Liaison on the ADA Strategic Planning Committee.

“My greatest honor as President will be to represent our organization,” said Shisler. “I will do so with an immense zeal derived from the hard work that every chapter is also contributing to advance our beloved profession.”

Also elected in Anahiem were ASDA’s vice presidents Brittany Bensch, University of Washington School of Dentistry '12, and Ken Randall, University of Kentucky College of Dentistry '12. Bensch has previously served ASDA as District 10 Trustee, chair of the Legislative Grassroots Network and two-time delegate to the ADA House of Delegates. She currently serves as the ASDA representative to the ADA workgroup to develop a portfolio-style licensure examination process and ASDA liaison to the ADA Council on Government Affairs. Randall has served on the ASDA Leadership Training and Governance Task Forces, and was elected president and first delegate of his local chapter. He is also a member of the Kentucky Dental Association Leadership Building and New Dentists subcommittees.

Elected as Speaker of the House of Delegates is Stephanie Vlahos, Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry '13. Vlahos has been active in ASDA as the Central Regional Legislative coordinator, ASDA Delegate to the ADA House of Delegates and member of the Leadership Training Taskforce. She is also involved in the Virginia Dental Association.
