Mitegen Announces Release of Dual Thickness MicroMounts™
Improved crystal mount for X-ray diffraction offers highest rigidity and lowest background scatter
Ithaca, NY, March 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Mitegen LLC, a provider of innovative consumables for X-ray diffraction, crystallography and protein crystallization to academic, pharmaceutical, industrial and government researchers around the world, announced the release of Dual-Thickness MicroMounts™, an improved crystal mounting tool for researchers performing X-ray diffraction experiments.
The new Dual-Thickness MicroMounts™ are tools for retrieving and mounting protein crystals, virus crystals, and small molecule/inorganic crystals for X-ray crystallography. Utilizing advanced proprietary micro-fabrication processes, the mounts have a thick, semi-rigid body and a thin, highly X-ray transparent crystal-receiving aperture. This dual thickness maximizes durability and rigidity, while maintaining the ultra-low X-ray background scatter that original MicroMounts™ are known for.
“Our team applied advanced manufacturing techniques we developed for our revolutionary low drop disturbance MicroLoops™LD product line, and enhanced them further to create the new Dual-Thickness MicroMounts™” says Robert Newman, CEO of Mitegen
In addition to minimizing X-ray background and improving durability, the design of the new MicroMounts™ addresses other challenges currently facing crystallographers. A computer optimized profile reduces crystal vibration due to the nitrogen gas flow during cryocrystallographic data collection. Well defined, rounded apertures and alignment marks simplifies automated crystal detection and centering in the X-ray beam for optimal data collection.
"Dual-Thickness MicroMounts™ provide the greatest rigidity while maintaining the lowest background," says Newman. "And continue our mission to provide the very best tools for researchers in structural biology, drug discovery, biophysics, organic and inorganic chemistry, and geological/earth science . It will be an easy decision for researchers to choose Dual-Thickness MicroMounts™ as the standard tool for their crystallography protocols."
