Mega-Collection of Tech Titan Interviews Launches on Amazon, Smashwords

Tech veteran William Van Winkle takes readers on a fascinating tour through the worlds of invention, marketing, music, gaming, startups, security, and more. Computing impacts all of our lives in profound ways. “Architects of Tomorrow” is a compelling odyssey through the minds of 75 people who have made our world into the technological marvel it is today and sheds light on the world we can expect tomorrow.

Hillsboro, OR, March 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- “Technology has always been a double-edged sword. It represents power to amplify our human proclivities for both creativity and destructiveness,” noted famed inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil at the end of William Van Winkle’s first interview for Computer Power User magazine (www.cpumag.com). Kurzweil led off what would become a decade of innovators, scientists, entrepreneurs, and luminaries that Van Winkle interviewed for CPU. In their own ways, each explored that double-edge blade. Now, in the “Architects of Tomorrow” ebook series, the best of these interviews are gathered into one place. Each interview contains previously unpublished and expanded content plus loads of 2011 follow-up discussion, making each chapter immediately relevant and intriguing.

“Volume 1” subjects include: Ray Kurzweil, Snopes.com founder Barbara Mikkelson, world champion gamer Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, Esther Dyson, PayPal co-founder Max Levchin, electronic music pioneer Brian “BT” Transeau, hypertext creator Ted Nelson, VIA CEO Wenchi Chen, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

“Enthusiasts and IT people tend to get caught up in the nuts and bolts of technology,” says Van Winkle. “We’re so focused on the little details that it’s easy to miss the big picture. If we’re going to understand where we’ve come from and where we’re going, we need to get inside the heads of the people making it happen.”

There will be three volumes in the Architects of Tomorrow series, each containing 25 chaptered interviews. Volume 1 just launched on Amazon (www.amazon.com/dp/B004SBP98U) and Smashwords (www.smashwords.com/books/view/47725) for $4.99. In additional to selling the ebook directly, Smashwords will also distribute the title to other major retailers, including Apple, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Sony, in the following weeks. Many interview excerpts and other bonus material can be found on the Architects of Tomorrow blog at http://architectsoftomorrow.blogspot.com.

About the Author

William Van Winkle started his tech career in a manufacturer’s rep firm in 1990. While working for a small Internet service provider, he made his first sale to a computer magazine in 1997 and was a full-time tech journalist by the end of 1998. He has covered everything from low-end consumer gadgets to enterprise cloud computing, but the most rewarding part of his work has remained the interviewing. “In the end, technology has to be about people,” says Van Winkle. “It’s the experiences and stories, not the speeds and feeds, that make tech such a deep part of our lives.”
