Finnish Ambassador Jarmo Viinanen to Lecture at Adelphi University on April 12

Garden City, NY, March 23, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University is pleased to welcome Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations Jarmo Viinanen as he speaks on “Dignified Foreign Policy.” The event will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. in the Adelphi University Alumni House, 154 Cambridge Avenue, Garden City, NY. It is sponsored by the International Initiatives Committee, and is free and open to the public.

Jarmo Viinanen has been Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations since April 2009. His service in Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) began in 1988, when he became Vienna-based attaché for the Ministry’s administrative and political departments. Later, Ambassador Viinanen served as first secretary with MFA’s Department for External Trade Relations in 1997, adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1998, and secretary general and chief of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Finland (2005-2009).

The International Initiatives Committee is a campus-wide group of faculty, administrators, and students charged with infusing courses and campus events with internationalized content. The IIC allows the University to offer dynamic programs such as its acclaimed Ambassador Series in intimate settings so students, faculty, and the public have the opportunity to hear first-hand, global perspectives on issues of international concern.
