MTV’s Chiuku Award Presented to Colombian Sensation Singer/Songwriter Marre
New York, NY, March 30, 2011 --(PR.com)-- MTV Latin America and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has recognized Colombian sensation, singer/songwriter Marre with the coveted “Chiuku” award Thursday March 24th at the annual IDB meeting in Calgary, Canada. The Chiuku pays tribute to “Agents of Change,” an initiative created jointly by MTV and IDB.
The prize was awarded to Marre during IDB's annual meeting in a special ceremony that was part of a Youth Development Program. In 2010 Marre was appointed spokesperson for IDB’s Road Safety campaign, "Do Your Part - Safe Roads for All" broadcast on MTV worldwide.
"I am very pleased and proud to receive the Chiuku award as an Agent of Change from MTV, on behalf of all youth, the new generation, and also as an artist in Colombia. The commitment of our young people, some who have no hope, should begin immediately with so much at our disposal. We are responsible for coming generations; we are in charge of leading our world into change at all levels, cultural, economic and social development. With our voice we can send a real and immediate change message to those who listen to us," said Marre. Past recipients include: Wyclef Jean, Kudai, Ashley Tisdale, Cobra Starship, DJ David Guetta, Fall Out Boy, Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio, 50 Cent, Calle 13, Backstreet Boys, Kelly Osbourne, Morrissey and Snoop Dogg, among others.
“Chiuku” is a fictional creature, originally from the Amazon, with a “special power” conjured by the mystical Chiukotek tribe. This power gives Chiuku the ability to speak the universal language of music and communicate with humans to invite them to become “Agents of Change.” Chiuku seeks to reach the most important and influential people, who in turn, will spread his message all over the world.
At the awards ceremony, Marre performed her hits and material from her soon to be released new album. The event was held at the Theatre of the University of Calgary, sponsored by the IDB, the Canadian International Development Agency and Microsoft.
