Nakanishi Research and Consulting, LLC Supports Bipartisan Smart Technologies Act
Nakanishi Research and Consulting, LLC Supports Bipartisan Smart Technologies Act - it is intended to assist communities in accelerating the deployment of ITS or Intelligent Transportation Systems.
New York, NY, April 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nakanishi Research and Consulting, LLC announces its support of the Smart Technologies Act, a bipartisan bill intended to accelerate ITS deployment. A telephone press conference is being hosted today at 1 pm by Representatives Rogers, R-MI and Carnahan, D-MO, and ITS America CEO Scott Belcher. More information about the call may be obtained by contacting Dave Yonkman (202) 225-4872/ dave.yonkman@mail.house.gov or Sam Drzymala at (202) 226-4661/ sam.drzymala@mail.house.gov.
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies address traffic congestion and its concomitant environmental, health, and energy issues. According to Dr. Nakanishi, Principal of Nakanishi Research and Consulting, LLC, increased deployment of ITS will significantly improve mobility, enhance safety and security, and address serious environmental and energy problems facing New Yorkers. Dr. Nakanishi is also President of ITS-NY and member of ITS America. She noted that "traffic congestion has unfortunately become a way of life for millions of New Yorkers." The New York metropolitan area is the largest in the nation, is home to over 19 million residents, and contains some of the worst bottlenecks in the U.S. Congestion cost the average New York metropolitan area commuter an additional $999, 42 hours and 32 gallons of fuel in 2009, according to a TTI report. Congestion also creates air and noise pollution, and threatens public health. As a result, New York residents have experienced increased rates of childhood asthma and asthma attacks, other respiratory problems, heart and lung disease, and, in some cases, death.
In addition, New York State’s transportation and bridge infrastructure is old and deteriorating and is causing safety concerns. ITS technologies are able to address important maintenance issues and enhance safety through the implementation of sensors and systems to monitor and assess infrastructure.
Dr. Nakanishi states, “A well-functioning transportation system will help New York remain competitive in this increasingly challenging, global economy.”
