Tampa Digital Partners with Panasonic and Avid for a 3D Production: It’s a First, 3D Going to the Dogs
2011 Purina® Incredible Dog Challenge™ Season Opens in Atlanta, Featuring the Eastern Region’s Best Athletic Canines in 3D.
Tampa, FL, April 02, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Tampa Digital, a visual communications company, today announced that it’s providing its clients, Nestle Purina PetCare and Carson International Inc., with a 3D production in conjunction with the Eastern Regional Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, April 1 – 2, 2011, from Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park. Panasonic and Avid will work with Tampa Digital to produce and distribute the 3D footage.
Tampa Digital will deploy two Panasonic 3D Professional cameras to cover the incredible dogs from around the country as they compete in a variety of Olympic-style events, such as Incredible Diving Dog, Freestyle Flying Disc, 60-Weave Pole Racing, Jack Russell Hurdle Racing and Large and Small Dog Agility.
"With so many 3D sporting events finding their way into the mainstream, the dynamic sport of athletic dogs clearly lends itself to 3D,” says Ryan Kindle, broadcast director, Tampa Digital. “The time has come for 3D in the athletic dog competition world. We’re excited about taking this opportunity to break in.”
Indeed, industry publications are reporting that in less than two years, nearly 100 3D cable television channels will be broadcasting into the homes of consumers. With long-standing relationships with partners Panasonic and Avid, Tampa Digital is making a strong push and positioning itself to become an active and immediate contributor to 3D programming, particularly for sports shows.
The 3D production will rely on the first AG-3DA1 integrated twin-lens 3D-camera recorder, which was developed with proprietary Panasonic technologies. Avid is providing post-production workflow support for the 3D media production.
“We will use the 3D cameras to capture the essence of the Incredible Dog Challenge,” says Jim Kopcik, broadcast producer, Tampa Digital. “We will take advantage of the practice sessions the day before the event to shoot tight, innovative angles of the competition. On the day of the event, we will concentrate on basic two-camera coverage.”
In addition to the 3D production, Tampa Digital is producing an HD broadcast that will air in syndication starting in May 2011, as well as a live webcast during the event at barknetwork.com, the worldwide home of athletic dogs.
Jim Allen, marketing manager, Nestle Purina PetCare, is a strong proponent of introducing athletic canine sports to the 3D universe, and is equally excited about the marketing opportunities that will become available from using this technology.
Panasonic will be using portions of the 3D production content from the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge for marketing and demo materials to be shown at its displays at the National Association of Broadcasters [NAB] convention in April 2011 in Las Vegas. NAB, the world’s largest digital media industry event, will be attended by nearly 100,000 people from leading media, entertainment and communications organizations who share a passion for the next generation of video and audio content across multiple platforms—from television, radio and computers to mobile phones, the big screen and beyond.
“The Incredible Dog Challenge has been the innovator in bringing the excitement of canine sports into people’s lives through television coverage, media and digital platforms for 14 years. 3D is the next frontier, and we are very excited to see the dogs ‘coming at us’ in this new dimension,” says Kathy Carson, President, Carson International.
