Rapidly Changing Energy Road Map of Europe Discussed at T&D Europe Next Week
The rapidly changing energy road map of Europe, including upgrading and connecting infrastructure, automating networks and integrating renewable energy, will be addressed during Transmission & Distribution Europe and Smart Grids Europe - the leading utility forum on the continent.
Copenhagen, Denmark, April 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The rapidly changing energy road map of Europe, including upgrading and connecting infrastructure, automating networks and integrating renewable energy, will be addressed during Transmission & Distribution Europe and Smart Grids Europe - the leading utility forum on the continent - from 12-14 April in Copenhagen, Denmark.
More than 30 utilities from all over Europe, as well as the USA, South Africa, Japan and Australia, will share their experiences and report back on projects, including a strong Danish delegation.
Lack of standards a major road block
Martin Speiermann, Vice President, Sales and Marketing of PowerSense, a global Danish utility control systems supplier, says it is necessary for the key players and the main stakeholders in the European power market to sit down and work on defining the requirements for the next generation power distribution. PowerSense heads up a list of leading utility and power specialists gathering at the upcoming conference and exhibition.
Martin Speiermann states: “As a component supplier to the power industry we can see that the lack of standards in key areas like security, protocols and communication is a major road block for the industry.” He continues: “The SmartGrid challenges are not really nation related. We believe that there are many interesting projects going on all over Europe and also in Denmark. And therefore the power industry should look for inspiration all over Europe before they make any decisions.”
Enexis project in The Netherlands
PowerSense produces supervision and control systems for the utility industry globally and apart from Denmark also works with major power companies throughout Europe, China, Oceania, and the US. Says Martin Speiermann: “We are working on several really interesting projects right now, in particular the DA project at Enexis in The Netherlands. The project will set new standards for many utility companies with its innovative thinking on how to solve the power distribution challenges of the future. PowerSense delivers the Smart Grid communications infrastructure for the distribution transformers. The full project is to digitize 42.000 existing distribution transformers in a very fragmented distribution grid.”
Programme highlights include:
Keynote session:
- Future energy landscape & intelligent electricity networks
The electrical utility industry is making the transition to a new infrastructure with benefits of improving the performance of electric utility systems and addressing the energy needs of society, such as improved efficiency and utilization, renewable energy integration, demand response, power quality and reduced maintenance cost.
- Overview of smart networks infrastructure in Europe
Christophe Schramm, Policy Officer, DG Energy, European Commission, Belgium
- Strategy & policy: intelligent energy networks in Europe
Torben Glar, Executive Vice President, Electricity Division, Energinet, Denmark
- New frontiers in revitalizing the power grid
Damir Novosel, Vice President, IEEE PES Technical Council, USA
- European regulatory updates: 2020 targets, the third package and the SET plan
Finn Dehlbæck, Director, Danish Energy Regulatory Authority (DERA), Denmark
Event dates and location: 12-14 April 2011 at the Bella Center, Center Boulevard, Copenhagen
