High Energy Dancing, Under the Heading of Urban Tap, is Coming to the Ridgefield Playhouse on March 4

Ridgefield, CT, February 27, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Tamango’s Urban Tap merges a broad range of free-style dance, including tap, capoeira, African and hip-hop with the exhilarating sounds of Haitian drumming, world percussion, didjeridoo, cello, trumpet, vocals and even more! The ensemble includes some of the most dynamic performers from around the world in a powerful intermingling of cultures and creative styles. They are awesome, to say the very least, under the direction of Tamango.  They are tapping their way to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 4 at 5 p.m.

The high-energy dance group is funded in part by the National Dance Project of the New England Foundation for the Arts. The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance has underwritten the performance. There will be a Master class for student ticket holders on Saturday, the day before the performance, at 4:30pm (call the box office for further information).

“Urban Tap finds comrades in any deep rhythmical recitation. You can almost see the diorama of the world speed behind them.” So said The Village Voice of Urban Tap. At the helm is Tamango, a revolutionary tap artist who has been described as one of the best tappers today. His latest work, Bay Mo Dilo (Give Me Water) will be performed at The Playhouse. Based on the rhythms and culture of his Kreyol heritage in French Guiana, this work brings together dancers and musicians from Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Haiti, Jamaica and France.

For tickets ($49 adult; $35 senior/student) and further information about The Ridgefield Playhouse, call the box office at 203-438-5795; adult tickets may also be purchased online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.
