The Gallery at 764 West Hosts J.A. Baker – Solo Art Exhibition “Life in Small Bites”
The Gallery at 764 West Hosts “Life in Small Bites,” a solo art exhibition and sale for J. A. Baker, opening on May 13 and running through June 13. An artist reception is on May 13 from 5 to 9 PM.
New Braunfels, TX, April 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Judith Baker's "Life in Small Bites" exhibition at the Gallery at 764 West focuses on her newest oil paintings, featuring her luminous still Lifes. Concentrating primarily on realism in oils, Judith's unique look and style incorporates skillful use of an "old master's" palette along with dramatic lighting.
"I often struggle to decide on a subject.
I fuss over the set up.
I muse upon the colors and lighting of the objects.
I lay out my palette with paint (usually the basic colors of the old masters).
I sit on my chair.
The rest I leave up to a higher power.
It always seems that there is no way the painting will look the way I anticipated when applying the
first brush strokes. Then it either becomes magical and the painting takes on a beautiful life of its own
or it becomes a “life lesson.”
I am still learning to accept either outcome!"
J. A. Baker was born in northern New Jersey to parents who appreciated and encouraged her interest in art. With a plentiful supply of crayons, paper and paint, she spent her early days drawing, painting and “making things.”
Baker studied art at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida about which she states “these were some of the most wonderful years of my life.” Her classes included an intensive curriculum of drawing, painting, landscape, portrait, figure and color theory as well as the more technical aspects of designing, type and illustration...all subjects that she was passionate about. After graduation, Judith pursued a 20 year career as an art director and designer for a number of firms in Florida, Oklahoma, and New Jersey until opening her own design firm. In Tulsa, Oklahoma she served on the council at Johnson Atelier, a city sponsored art center. Here she had the opportunity to explore all sorts of mediums from hand thrown pottery to intaglio printmaking. As an Artist-in-Residence with the Oklahoma State Arts Council she exhibited her watercolor paintings and photography in galleries and shows, from New Jersey to New Mexico; winning numerous awards and corporate, public and private commissions.
Baker currently lives in Canyon Lake, TX and has paintings on display at Cactus Jack's in Gruene, Texas.
