Mobile Bicycle Repair Business Launched in Richmond, CA

Slimm Buick, of the Bicycle Art Salon, offers mobile repairs at homes, businesses and along bike trails throughout the Bay Area.

Richmond, CA, April 08, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Slimm Buick, of the Bicycle Art Salon, will now be offering free and sliding scale repairs for bicycle owners in and around Richmond, California. Repairs and service can be handled at the studio, or the bike-owner's location of choice. Buick is also taking orders for custom bicycles, to be built at his studio at the Bridge Art Space, 23 Maine Ave, #720 Richmond, CA 94804. For more on art and music studios there, see BridgeArtSpace.com.

Slimm Buick has riding and building bikes since he was a kid, in San Francisco where he was born and raised. Since moving to the East Bay, he has easily and happily settled into his home and studio in the Iron Triangle/downtown area of Richmond, CA. “People say this is a dangerous place,” said Buick, “but I've seen just the opposite. People here are friendly and welcoming, unlike anywhere else I've ever lived. It still has a sort of 'Southern Charm', thanks to the old timers and those born and raised here. So, as you can imagine, when the award for an artists in residency was presented by the Bridge Art space, I jumped on it!”

Buick's work has been seen in galleries throughout California, and has appeared in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Oakland Museum and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' Bicycle Culture: Prototype and Customized Bicycles and Biker Paraphernalia, where Slimm was guest Curator. "Bicycle Culture [was] a show with lots of flair and no artistic pretensions,” according to Mark Dion another featured art bike creator. He was also featured in a Discovery Channel Documentary, Wierd Wheels following a segment on his friend, Ray Nelson and the organization he started, Guitars Not Guns. Most recently, Buick's usual ride, Rawhide, was seen in the Sony Film Rent and the Award-Winning Documentary, Automorphosis, by Harrod Blank.

The Bridge Art Space is being carved out of a self storage facility, with actual residences, in addition to solo or shared studio space for rent, whether art, music or other endeavor. There is also a ceramics studio, and kilns, on site with classes to be offered soon. The artists there now will all be featured during the annual East Bay Open Studios tour, Pro Arts of Oakland, a member of which Buick is as well. A grand opening celebration is being planned, with invitations available by email to bicycleartsalon@gmail.com or via their Facebook page - facebook.com/SlimmBuickArtBikes.
