With "Brand" New Signature, Shenandoah University Honors the Past and Future
Denver, CO, April 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Over 200 students, faculty, and staff members from Shenandoah University (SU) gathered in a music-filled courtyard celebration to announce the University’s new logo and wordmark Thursday morning. The institution developed its new logo and brand with guidance of Denver based, branding agency, Educational Marketing Group (EMG), which created the logo and has worked with SU on brand development.
The timing of the announcement could not have been more fitting for a University filled with tradition, coming at the tail-end of a year-long, 50th anniversary celebration of moving the campus to Winchester, VA.
"This logo represents our Dayton roots, our journey to Winchester and our commitment to academic excellence," said SU President Tracy Fitzsimmons. “It's symbolic in our pride and our current location and how great our academic offerings are and what a close-knit community that Shenandoah University is."
The event finalized a carefully planned effort to unveil the logo by SU and EMG. Mitch Moore, Vice President for Advancement, describes a portion of the process, “We rolled it out to our deans and directors to see what they thought in October. Everybody loved it, and since then, we've been working to refine it. We had to go through the editing process - we wanted to make sure there was a clear consensus on campus about it."
The stars in the logo symbolize both the current Winchester campus and the previous Dayton campus, and also represent the Native American translation of Shenandoah, which means "daughter of the stars." Shenandoah has created a “Brand Information Center” on their website to help stakeholders understand the strategy and inspiration behind the logo: http://su.edu/brand-new-look.asp.
"We have one of the most incredible names in the English language, Shenandoah," says President Fitzsimmons, "and we haven't taken advantage of that, we haven't reflected that. We want to be a place that shows commitment to a healthy planet and that we are deeply connected with the local communities of the Shenandoah Valley."
