The OC Breast Cancer Fundraiser – a Huge Success

Newport Beach, CA, April 16, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The 7th annual Orange County Breast Cancer Fundraiser (OCBCF) took place the evening of Saturday, April 2, 2011 in Costa Mesa, CA. With the OCBCF’s eighth year rapidly approaching, the OC Breast Cancer Fundraiser presses on from its first debut raising $150 to now raising more than $20,000 per year. Over 450 guests attended Saturday’s event, and included celebrity Alexis Bellino of the Real Housewives of Orange County. The night was a huge success bringing in well over the mark of $20,000, and the night wouldn’t have been possible without the OCBCF sponsors. The title sponsor and top contributor for the fundraiser was CosmetiCare, the Newport Beach Plastic Surgery Center and Med Spa where Orange County breast reduction and breast reconstruction (for breast cancer survivors who have undergone a mastectomy) is one of their most honorable services for breast enhancement in Orange County.

Komen for the Cure states that while the causes of breast cancer are unknown, there are believed factors that may increase your risk of breast cancer which include, but are not limited to the following: aging- the older you get, the greater your risk of breast cancer; having an inherited mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 breast cancer genes; having a previous biopsy showing hyperplasia; lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS); a family history of breast cancer; having high breast density on a mammogram; being exposed to large amounts of radiation, such as very frequent spine X-rays for scoliosis or treatment for Hodgkin’s disease at a young age; a personal history of breast or ovarian cancer; starting menopause after age 55; never having children; having your first child after age 35; high bone density; being overweight after menopause or gaining weight as an adult; having more than one drink of alcohol per day; postmenopausal hormone use (current or recent use) of estrogen or estrogen plus progestin; being younger than 12 at the time of your first period; current or recent use of birth control pills; and of course, being a woman.
