SFSU Students Learn from Medical Meetings Management Professional, Devon Shaw of Bright Meetings & Events

Devon Shaw, CMP and BME Partner teaches workshop on meetings and events career and industry choices to students at San Francisco State University

San Francisco, CA, April 17, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Students of the San Francisco State University’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Department (HTM) gained unique insider insights into the meetings and events industry on Wednesday, April 6 on the SFSU campus in San Francisco during a workshop led by medical meetings management professional, Devon Shaw.

Shaw’s workshop gave students a window out into the “real world” of meetings and event management; including the differences between corporate, association, and third-party arenas. The course focus was to educate students on the choices they will have as professionals and the challenges they will face as meeting planners.

Alexandra Capitolo, a sophomore HTM student at SFSU noted, “Our major lacks detailed courses in meeting planning, so Devon's workshop was incredibly beneficial to all of us.” Another student, Lindsey Gallo commented, “Every student left in awe of all of the new information we had just received and was excited about the information Devon gave us on how to get into the industry and stay informed.”

“I find it inspiring to work with these bright and eager students,” says Shaw. “The meetings industry is a huge part of the economy and the next generation of planners that are entering the workforce will play an important role as our industry continues to evolve.”

The students are scheduled to graduate in 2013 from SFSU’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Department program. The HTM offers an accredited Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management designed to provide study in a core of business foundation and professional hospitality management courses, and a choice of interdisciplinary elective emphases.
