New Paranormal Romance Novella Brings Satire and Non-Sparkly Vampires to the Sunshine State

St. Petersburg, FL, April 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A new paranormal romance novella about the ever-popular vampire/ human relationship trope hit the virtual shelves on March 31st. The book, The Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume One: Meeting and Mating by Evelyn Lafont, takes a satirical look at what a relationship between a vampire and a human woman might actually be like.

“The goal of the book is to provide a snarky story that pokes fun at the paranormal romance genre while still providing characters, romance and a plot that genre devotees will love,” said Lafont. According to the 2009 Romance Literature Statistics report, issued by the Romance Writers of America, which contained figures published by Simba Information, sales of romantic fiction totaled $1.36 billion in 2009. The paranormal romance genre took 17.16 percent of those sales.

The popularity of young adult vampire movies, books and television shows over recent years offers an illustration of the underlying momentum of the genre. But Lafont says that readers shouldn’t assume every paranormal romance is a recycled version of something they’ve already seen or read, “The paranormal romance genre was around for many years before some of the newer books and movies were even a twinkle in the eyes of their authors. Within the genre, the range of storylines, styles and even the level of romantic involvement between characters ranges widely. So whether a reader likes action, comedy, romance, erotica or a crazy combination of them all, chances are they will find something to satisfy.”

The Vampire Relationship Guide, Volume One is available in e-book format on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and Smashwords.com. Lafont anticipates that a print version will be available in the summer. The second book in the series is due out in August 2011.
