The Top 10 Coolest Robots from Around the World in Manufacturing Digital
Manufacturing Digital discovers some truly amazing worldwide developments in robot technology.
San Diego, CA, April 19, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Honda’s ASIMO (Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility) is today’s most advanced humanoid robot. It can run, climb stairs and even recognise faces. ASIMO is the culmination of 15 years of research by Honda engineers.
What is incredible about ASIMO is it can make a judgment based on what it has learnt. If ASIMO is shown an object and told its name, the humanoid is able to recognise it when it encounters it again.
Its body is made from magnesium alloy covered with a plastic resin, which makes ASIMO very light weight and durable.
ASIMO is powered by a rechargeable, 51.8 volt lithium ion battery that lasts for one hour on a single charge. The battery is stored in ASIMO’s backpack and weighs about 13 pounds.
Manufacturing Digital also looks at Hiroshi Ishiguro’s Germinoid DK, which is the first humanoid robot to be created outside of Japan. Beardbot5000 is made from silicone rubber and pneumatic actuators and is controlled remotely.
Manufacturing Digital also discovered this month that engineering firm Boston Dynamics won a multi-million dollar contract to develop a robotic cheetah, for the Department of Defence.
The robo-cat, which is currently being manufactured, will be able to outrun any human being. Engineers believe the robo-cat will eventually be able to reach speeds of 70mph.
