PME Develops Conductivity Sensor for Hypersaline Lakes and Estuaries

Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME) recently developed a new conductivity sensor to be used for water quality monitoring and management.

Vista, CA, April 22, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME), an internationally known oceanographic and limnologic instrument design corporation has designed and developed a new conductivity sensor to be used with their T-Chain sensing string, a water column monitoring device manufactured by PME.

The conductivity sensor measures conductivity using an inductive sensor technique. AC voltage is applied to a transformer core, which includes current flow in the surrounding water. This current is detected by a second transformer core. The conductivity sensor was designed for use in hypersaline lakes and estuary research applications where high accuracy conductivity isn’t required.

T-Chains are currently being used to monitor lake and reservoir thermocline and stratification, detect dissolved oxygen fluctuations, observe internal waves, collect data under ice, discover plumes, observe upwelling and eddies, record lake turnover and more. T-Chains can telemeter real-time data via GSM cell phone.
