New York, NY, May 27, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Under the wing of CEO Kenneth Rozenberg, the Bronx Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare is now offering a state-of-the-art on-site dialysis to residents, in addition to out-patient care. An extended-stay nursing home facility, the Bronx Center features a talented staff of physical therapists, social workers, dietitians and other specialists.
"We're excited to provide top quality on-site renal care to the residents of the Bronx Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare, to increase both physical health and quality of life. Our new redesigned program allows patients to receive the treatment they need without leaving the facility, affording them more time to spend with family and friends," Kenneth Rozenberg said.
Maintained by an interdisciplinary staff of doctors and nurses, the on-site dialysis center provides modern, comfortable treatment for patients. The dialysis program's on-site nature enables effective communication between the renal specialists and the Bronx Center's other caretakers, facilitating attentive treatment off-site programs cannot match.
Beyond this attentive level of care, the on-site dialysis center also decreases treatment time for patients, as they do not have to travel to a remote location. This gives patients more time to rest, relax and interact with friends and family, helping them to make the most of their time at the Bronx Center. The Bronx Center also offers out-patient services for non-residents.
First performed in 1943 in the Netherlands, dialysis has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when physician Willem Kolff constructed a dialyzer out of beverage cans, sausage casings and a washing machine, among other extraneous items. Over time, the life-saving procedure has been refined to include three primary methods - hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemofiltration - as well as two secondary techniques - hemodiafiltration and intestinal dialysis.
Dialysis replaces kidney function for patients experiencing renal failure, typically caused by acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease. Dialysis replaces the diffusion and ultrafiltration functions that healthy kidneys provide, moderating the body's level of minerals and water, respectively. For many patients, dialysis is regarded as a holding measure to preserve health until a renal transplant is available. For others, it is used as an alternative when transplant surgery is deemed inappropriate.
A 200-bed facility, the Bronx Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare is located at 1010 Underhill Ave. The Bronx Center is Medicare and Medicaid certified with kosher meals available.
The Bronx Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare is part of the Centers for Specialty Care Group, a network of assisted living facilities, nursing homes and home healthcare agencies operated by CEO Kenneth Rozenberg. The Centers for Specialty Care Group serves to unify healthcare in the Northeast for patients of all kinds, whether they're searching for the peace and quiet of the network's Chittenango and Rome Centers in upstate New York, or the convenience of the Brooklyn Rehabilitation and Residential Healthcare Center.
