Women on the Verge Announces Hot Topic for May: Mothers
Women on the Verge celebrates “Mothers” this month and invites you to share your story on the WOTV blog. You have a mother, perhaps are a mother, step-mother, grandmother or even a great-grandmother. Please come and share your Mother story at womenontheverge.net.
Tucson, AZ, May 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Wherever you are in life, mothers have been a key ingredient in who you are and how you live. Women on the Verge celebrates “Mothers” this month and invites you to share your story on the WOTV blog. You have a mother, perhaps are a mother, step-mother, grandmother or even a great-grandmother. Please come and share your Mother story.
Abolitionist, feminist and poet, Julia Ward Howe, is known as the founder of Mother’s Day. In 1870 (after the U.S. Civil War, during the Reconstruction Era) issued her Mother’s Day Proclamation, which begins:
Arise then...women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!
Whether your baptism be of water or of tears!
Howe then calls for women to leave the care of hearth and home to attend an international "general congress" whose purpose she states is:
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.
As Ms. Howe later put it: "Why do not the mothers of mankind interfere in these matters, to prevent the waste of that human life of which they alone bear and know the cost?" The original Mother's Day message urged women to put on hold their caring for hearth and home, husband and children, and to work instead on making the world a better, safer, more peaceful place.
WOTV founder Ana Lewis invites members to share their May is for Mother stories on the WOTV blog. Lewis suggests that “by connecting on the WOTV website and radio show, women can support each other in a way that leads to better health in mind, body and spirit.”
A recent addition to the blogs, videos, personal connections, and discussions on the Women on the Verge site is their bookstore, featuring books written by WOTV members.
