Michigan Rescue and Restore Offers Human Trafficking 101
As April came to a close, the membership of Michigan Rescue and Restore offered basic 101 information on human trafficking. Speakers Pamela Hudson and Nicole McGee shared information to educate, advocate and equip attendees to action.
Detroit, MI, May 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On April 26, 2011 the Michigan Rescue and Restore Coalition with sponsorship by Global Projects for Hope, Help and Healing offered a three hour training to raise awareness, educate and equip attendees on the reality, challenges and facts on human trafficking in the greater region of the state.
Attendees were able to hear from specialist in this area from the FBI in the person of Dr. Nicole McGee, FBI Victim Specialist. Dr. McGee shared the inner workings of signature programs and initiatives to help identify and capture those who are operating in the state in this atrocity called human trafficking. Dr. McGee who was well versed and shared some great insight was very candid opening attendees eyes to how real and raw the facts concerning this violation of human rights is impacting our community.
Also, sharing was Project Director of Michigan Rescue and Restore, Pamela J. Hudson. She shared the definitions of trafficking, telling stories of the methods used by traffickers to lure women into their traps. Pam also offered some rare looks into the mindset of traffickers as well as the vulnerability of our young people to the trappings of those who prey on them. This introductory training was a promotion of further training offered by FAAST who's program is an international curriculum for caregivers of human trafficking, the actual 2 day program is Hands That Heal. Attendees were given an opportunity to sign up for this training where a certificate would be given at completion.
The Hands That Heal training is intensive and prepares the caregiver to gain comprehension on how to work with someone rescued from trafficking and what mental, emotional and psychological struggles are unique to the sex trafficking of women and children.
This training is one of the many that will occur as the Coalition seeks out multiple ways to get the word out and grasp hold to the broader community to wake up and begin the process of identifying this crime and putting a stop to its growth or expansion in our city, region and state. As Hudson shared, we do not want Michigan to become a hub for this type of criminal activities, we do not want this named among the qualities of our state, we want to uphold the concept of a "Pure Michigan."
The Michigan Rescue and Restore Coalition was launched on January 25th following a Town Hall Meeting on Human Trafficking at Wayne State University by Dr. Sabrina Black and Pamela Hudson of Global Projects for Hope, Help and Healing.
The Coalition meets every second Tuesday from 5:30pm-7:00pm and Thursday 12noon - 1:30pm at the offices of the Eastern Division headquarters of The Salvation Army located on Northland Drive in Southfield, Michigan.
Everyone is welcomed to come and join in the battle against human trafficking. We offer a variety of resources, speakers, experiences and organizations who are dedicated to being a voice for the voiceless and bringing hope to the hopeless.
The next Coalition meetings is May 10 and May 12, you only have to attend one of these meetings a month. Give them a call at 313.205.7300 and become an Abolitionist Against Human Trafficking. Join them as they safeguard our citizens from being a victim of trafficking in all its ugly form. We are not free until all are free!
