Winter Springs, FL, May 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The internet is buzzing with sites foretelling doom and gloom surrounding the Elenin Comet. As we approach 2012, some people are looking for anything that will tie in to the end of the Mayan calendar. Websites are abound with conspiracies that Elenin, also known as C/2010 X1, is wreaking havoc with Earth's weather, causing our poles to shift and earthquakes.

Elenin is a comet that was discovered in December by Russian astronomer Leonid Elenin, using equipment at the International Scientific Optical Network's robotic observatory. The comet is indeed headed towards us and might become visible to the human eye sometime in August. Elenin will be at its brightest when it is closest to our Sun, around mid-September. Most astronomers think you will still need binoculars to view it however.
