Trio Unite to Serve Tampa Families and Pets in Need
Seaport Storage Channelside partners with Pets for Patriots in Memorial Day community pet food drive to benefit the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.
Tampa, FL, May 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- To honor our nation’s fallen heroes, Seaport Storage Channelside in Tampa Bay is sponsoring a pet food drive on behalf of Pets for Patriots, Inc., a not-for-profit that connects at-risk shelter pets with service and veteran members of the United States military. Proceeds of the drive will be donated to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for distribution to families in need.
“We here at Seaport Storage are committed to giving back to the community,” says Brian Nulph, Seaport Storage Manager, “With your donations we can team up together and not only help the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, but our troops and veterans as well.”
Donors are asked to give bags or cans of dog and cat food. All brands are accepted, and partially used bags of food are welcome if they are unspoiled and properly secured. Donations will be collected through May 27, after which they will be delivered to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for sorting and distribution.
“Pets are members of the family and often go hungry when their caretakers struggle financially,” says Beth Zimmerman, executive director of Pets for Patriots. “When Seaport Storage approached us to organize a pet food drive, we thought it was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the community while supporting our local program adoption partner, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.”
According to 2011 USDA figures, more than three million people in Florida are food insecure, at times lacking access to enough nutritionally adequate food to feed their families. When people have to choose between feeding their loved ones or the family dog or cat, the pet suffers.
“In 2010, we gave away over 470,000 pounds of free food to keep animals in the Tampa Bay area from going hungry,” says Sherry Silk, executive director of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. “We really appreciate Pets for Patriots and the Seaport Storage Channelside helping us in this cause of keeping animals with their owners so that they do not have to be turned into shelters.”
Collection bins are located in Seaport Channelside’s building lobby as well as in its leasing office at 1120 E Twiggs Street in Tampa Bay.
