Muriel Siebert established Muriel Siebert & Co., Inc. in 1967 when she became the first woman member of the NYSE and transformed it into a discount brokerage house in May 1975, the first day that NYSE members were permitted to negotiate commissions. In addition to her many achievements and accolades as the head of her firm, Ms. Siebert developed a Personal Finance Program that was introduced into the economic curriculum of New York City’s public high schools. The program was designed to equip high school seniors with two essential financial management skills – managing a checkbook and understanding the use and abuse of credit cards. The program was later expanded to include a middle school version and now covers additional topics such as budgeting, identity theft, taxation, financial planning and more. She hopes to see these programs established nationally.
Through her work at the Financial Recovery Institute and in her new book “Financial Recovery,” Karen McCall helps people become trained in the Financial Recovery process, liberates people from the devastation of ongoing money problems, and shows them the way to life-long financial health and stability.
