New Partnership Promotes Development of Advanced Fall Detection System for Senior Living Market
Halo Monitoring and Tel-Tron Technologies to adapt myHalo medical alarm system.
Huntsvile, AL, May 07, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Continuing its growth, Halo Monitoring, an aging-in-place technology company today announced it is partnering with Tel-Tron Technologies Corporation, a technology leader in the business of aging, to develop a version of the myHalo medical alarm system for the senior living market.
Halo Monitoring’s myHalo system is the first medical alarm that sends an automatic alert in the event of a fall with no need for the senior to push a button. Through the strategic relationship, Tel-Tron and Halo will adapt the myHalo system for use in a senior living environment. The new product will then seamlessly integrate with the wireless mesh network technology used in Tel-Tron’s flagship product, CompanionOne.®
"Every senior's needs are different and there are many tools and services available to help maintain independence, but myHalo has the most advanced fall detection and is a critical part of any complete care plan," says Chris Otto, CEO of Halo Monitoring and a senior care expert. "With Tel-Tron's innovative resident safety technology, their partnerships with high quality senior living operators and their commitment to the independence and dignity of seniors in assisted living and memory care communities, they are an ideal partner to work with to bring next-generation fall detection to the senior living market."
"We couldn't be happier with Chris and his team at Halo," says Tel-Tron CEO Brian Dawson. "After an extensive technical evaluation of the fall detection space, the myHalo product clearly has the technological advantage over others and delivers on its promises of accurate and timely fall detection. Our clients are going to love this new capability, because at the end of the day what they really provide is peace of mind for their residents and residents' families. This new product will help."
The tiny sensors in the waterproof myHalo device measure a user's orientation and motion in three dimensions. The device is constantly monitoring the information in real-time searching for signature data indicative of a fall. The proprietary fall detection algorithms of the myHalo device are the result of years of observation, modeling, and engineering. In a recent study of efficacy, the fall detection algorithms of myHalo demonstrated extremely high reliability and accuracy - 98.9% sensitivity and 99.2% specificity.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, falls account for 70% of the accidental deaths in the elderly population, and a recent study by the National Institutes of Health found that if help can be attained within one hour of a fall, seniors are nearly six times more likely to survive.
