A New Hope for Independent Musicians

New music compilations intend to connect independent rap, rock, and electronic artists with music industry professionals.

Washington, DC, March 07, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Roland Media Distribution's newly launched Journals of New Music (www.journalsofnewmusic.com) hope to offer independent musicians an opportunity to grab the attention of the music and entertainment industry without signing with a corporate record label. The Journals are compilations of independent rap, rock, and electronic music that intend to meet music industry professionals’ growing need to keep up to date with developments in music.

“Music moves a lot faster today than it did even five years ago, and there is a lot more music out there than there was before,” said Project Director Max Shearson. “People in the industry – and that includes independent labels, tour organizers, and nightclub owners – are having a tough time keeping track of it all. The Journals will help them keep track of not only new artists, but new directions in music.”

The Journals of New Music are one of the few compilations to accept music directly from unsigned artists. “We accept submissions from artists and from independent labels,” stated Project Director Max Shearson. “Many labels are unwilling to take a risk with an artist with a sound that is not immediately accessible to the majority of the listening public. Because our audience will be primarily those in the industry, we want to make sure that we hear those artists. Plus, more and more artists want to be commercially successful and still keep the rights to their work, and with the distribution channels available, it has become a more realistic goal.”

The Journals are part of a growing movement away from a music scene dominated by companies such as corporate music giant Clear Channel Worldwide. However, Shearson denied that the Journals oppose Clear Channel, saying only that “Clear Channel targets consumers. Our market is professionals. These are the songs and artists that are shaping what the music scene will be five years down the road, and that’s what industry professionals want to know about.”

Shearson stated that the first compilations were scheduled to be released in late spring of 2007, but that an exact date had not yet been set. Submission and availability information can be found at www.journalsofnewmusic.com
