Live Webcast.” This two-hour event is scheduled on June 22, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM ET.
Event Synopsis
The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) was signed into law to help improve off-shore account reporting. Under this act, foreign banks are required to report and disclose U.S. interests in foreign financial institutions (FFIs). The legislation aims to prevent offshore tax abuses by U.S. persons through new rules which include the implementation of a new withholding regime. The new guidance is designed to achieve intent via a 30 percent withholding tax on foreign entities that refuse identity disclosures of these tax abusive persons.
Financial institutions, investment entities, insurance companies and other organizations operating globally must have a thorough understanding of what this new standard brings and its impact on international tax planning.
The Knowledge Group is assembling a panel of key thought leaders and experts to help you expand on this hot issue. The audience will have a chance to interact live with the panel in a Q&A segment.
It will explore the following key topics:
-- Procedures to be followed by participating Foreign Financial Institutions ("FFIs") in identifying U.S. accounts among their pre-existing individual accounts.
-- "Passthru payments" Definition and analysis, including the obligation of participating FFIs to withhold on pass thru payments
-- The categories of FFIs that will be "deemed compliant"
-- The obligation of participating FFIs to report in relation to U.S. accounts
