Friends of Doylestown Airport Sponsors Its First Information Session for the Community

Doylestown, PA, March 09, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Did you know Buckingham Township rezoned land with a public well serving Cold Spring Creamery Road to permit fuel storage and solid waste disposal? Did you know the Doylestown Airport is run as a break-even operation by a governing board that is comprised of all volunteers from the community?

To provide a forum to inform the community about the open space/runway extension project, Friends of Doylestown Airport (FODA), a grassroots initiative to clarify the issues, dispel the myths, and underscore the positive aspects of the plans to protect open space and improve the Doylestown Airport for safety reasons, offered its first free public information session on March 7, 2007 at the Bucks County Free Library in Doylestown.

Lynda Mitchell and Becky Barlow, FODA members as well as neighbors of the airport, spoke about their concerns regarding open space and water quality issues near the airport, and Alan Shaw, President of FODA, provided a historical perspective of the Doylestown Airport’s improvement projects. Michael Carr, Esq., an attorney with expertise in zoning law, provided explanations about zoning regulations relative to light industrial zoning. Alan Black, Chairman of the Bucks County Airport Authority, provided information to the group regarding safety issues, and the airport’s 20 year master plan that details a runway to 3800 ft with no further planned runway length expansion. The presentations were followed by a community-hall type session to help answer questions and concerns from members of the community.

In 2001, Buckingham Township and the Bucks County Airport Authority entered into an agreement to preserve over 180 acres for local open space uses and extend the runway 800 ft. to improve safety. Currently those plans have been derailed amid controversy and misrepresentation of facts. FODA intends to reach out to the local community to help educate and raise awareness of the positive aspects of this open space preservation project that will be financed without cost to local taxpayers.

Friends of Doylestown Airport (FODA) is a Pennsylvania non-profit corporation formed as a business league for the improvement and promotion of business and environmental conditions at the Doylestown Airport for the benefit of the common interests of users and residents in the vicinity.

FODA’s education and advocacy efforts will include a series of meetings and informative presentations. For further information about FODA or to register for future public information sessions, please email Friends of Doylestown Airport at info@friendsda.org or call (267) 828-0152.
