Island Expeditions Co. Offers Extraordinary Trips in Belize for High School and University Students
Island Expeditions Co. (IEC) is now booking educational trips to Belize for the 2011/2012 school year. IEC has been operating unique educational trips in Belize for the past 20 years. To create exceptional itineraries, IEC works closely with educators to develop a customized itinerary specific to the school’s travel and learning objectives.
Vancouver, Canada, May 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Students gain education through hands on experience and are able to blend in elements of adventure travel and adventure sports. This combination enables educators the opportunity to achieve traditional learning outcomes in some of the most ecologically and culturally diverse areas in the world, allowing students the opportunity to take away true life changing experiences.
Educational itineraries include both an exploration of the interior and the pristine offshore coral reef habitats. The Barrier Reef and atolls are considered one of the richest marine ecosystems on earth. While inland, students have the opportunity to experience tropical rainforests, savannas, wetlands and Belize’s unique cave systems. Of course any exploration of the interior is not complete without a visit to one of the over 600 Maya Ruins found in Belize.
Students also have the opportunity to gain an appreciation of the local Belizean culture through visiting local schools and Garifuna drumming sessions. While out on the Barrier Reef, students study various aspects of marine biology, at the same time as learning how to sea kayak, sail a kayak, snorkel or fish Belizean style.
With English as the primary spoken language of Belize, groups are able to connect with the cultures of the country in a way that is often not possible in other international destinations.
All activities are taught by IEC’s certified North American and Belizean guides. Alongside their leaders, IEC bring in guides who have specific expertise pertaining to the local area. Typically this will involve Garifuna or Creole captains and fisherman on the sea, including marine biologists and Mayan bush guides in the rainforest.
Educational trips usually begin with a pick-up upon arrival at the International Airport in Belize City. Prices include meals, accommodation, transportation within the country, guides, group equipment and all activities.
