New Wikipedia Style Website for Festival Goers Launches in Time for UK Summer Music Season
WikiFestivals.com aims to become the UK's premier online festival community.
London, United Kingdom, May 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- A successful web development company based in Farringdon, London have launched a new social media website called WikiFestivals.com. Based on the successful Wikipedia "open source" model, WikiFestivals aims to encourage unique user input and deliver an insight into music festivals throughout the world, for people researching festivals online.
The new WikiFestivals website, built by the web team behind WikiJob.co.uk, aims to become the premier online destination for all music festival related news, discussion and research and will one day offer users the chance to read about festivals all over the world, in almost every language.
Although still in it's infancy, festival-goers can visit the WikiFestivals website to get daily news round-ups, meet other people with similar interests and add to wiki profiles on their favourite festivals. Festivals are also able to plug in social utilities (such as Facebook and Twitter) into their wiki profiles, to better engage with fans.
Ed Mellett, founder of WikiFestivals explains, "Our new website has been built in such a way that it creates a platform for many different types of user to engage with each other in a multitude of different ways. Festivals fans can connect easily through our wikis and forums but festival organisers themselves can also use WikiFestivals as a means of connecting to their target audience."
"Since we went live in early April the reaction to WikiFestivals has been overwhelming. Young people and especially students and graduates who are already familiar with Wikipedia have been flocking to the website to add valuable input about their favourite festivals. In the last few days over 3,000 have visited WikiFestivals, which is phenomenal for a brand new site!"
The UK has seen a massive increase in the number of summer music festivals in recent years as their popularity has increased exponentially. In 2011 it has been estimated that 1 in 5 people in England and Wales will attend some type of festival. WikiFestivals aims to provide these festival-goers with easier access to more detailed information about the festivals they are considering attending.
