12designer.com Explores Crowdsourcing User’s Motivation in an International Research
A survey conducted by leading European creative crowdsourcing website 12designer.com will be presented at the Crowdconvention in Berlin.
Berlin, Germany, May 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Eva Missling, 12designer’s CEO and founder, will attend the first crowdsourcing conference to be held in Europe on June 15th to discuss the results of an innovative survey, conducted by 12designer.
The results of the survey, in which over 700 users from the creative community were asked about their motivation for participating in a crowdsourcing environment, show that an ability to practice design skills in a working environment and pursue projects with a strong personal interest were considered as strong an incentive as financial reward.
Eva Missling says, “Over 55% of our creatives indicated that they viewed the opportunity to practice their designs skills as a high motivating factor, while a similar figure (52%) viewed personal interest in the project as a good incentive. The figure for financial reward was around 55%.”
There is a common perception that these sorts of motivations exist because crowdsourcing users are made up of young, inexperienced creatives who only use websites like 12designer to practice and get a foot in the door, but further results from the survey suggest this is wide of the mark.
Missling adds, “40% of the respondents indicated working in the field for 6 years and over 25% of them for 10 years. These are not kids just out of high school or university, they are experienced designers who are clearly enjoying working within a crowdsourced environment.”
Missling is eager to open up discussion about the implications of the findings at Crowdconvention 2011, where the 12designer CEO will appear as a guest speaker.
“I believe we have just concluded the first, experimental phase of crowdsourcing. Now it is time to look further forward, to investigate how users are interacting, what their motivations and interests are and using that knowledge to grow and optimise the crowdsourcing sector,” Missling says.
The research endorses 12designer’s desire to interact with and contribute to the top bracket of crowdsourcing innovators, many of whom will be present at the Crowdconvention in Berlin.
Missling says, “We want to want to use our standing as an innovator in the crowdsourcing field to build relationships and assist others who believe in the model. It is an exciting time for this market and we want our passion to keep the momentum going.”
