CSPA Selects Plano, Texas Student as 2011 Murray Glauberman Scholarship Award Recipient

The Consumer Specialty Products Association selects student Rennie Song from Plano, Texas, as the 23rd recipient of the Murray Glauberman Memorial Scholarship Award.

Plano, TX, May 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In continuation of its commitment to assist high school scholars reach their academic pursuits, the Consumer Specialty Products Association (CSPA) selected student Rennie Song from Plano, Texas, as the 23rd recipient of the Murray Glauberman Memorial Scholarship Award. Since the scholarship program began in 1988, CSPA has awarded a total of $180,000 to be used toward the pursuit of a college degree and selected 23 students nationwide to receive the honor.

"Rennie is an outstanding candidate and we are pleased to present her with this award," said Chris Cathcart, CSPA President and CEO. "The value of a receiving a college degree cannot be emphasized enough and having the opportunity to assist a deserving student scholar further their education is something we are very proud of as an organization."

This CSPA-sponsored scholarship, which is awarded to one person annually, provides a high school senior with a four-year, $2,000-per-year college scholarship. The award of the scholarship recognizes a student whose leadership, extracurricular contributions and accomplishments, in and out of school, has been exemplary.

Rennie, who is on pace to graduate in June with a 4.5 GPA, scored a combined 2370 on her SAT college admissions test. Additionally, she received the White House's 2010 Presidential Volunteer Service Award, the 2010 AP Scholar with Distinction Award and the 2009 Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Award. In the fall she plans to attend Dartmouth College.

The selection of this year's scholarship winner was determined by committee in conjunction with Dr. Milena Santoro, associate professor at Georgetown University. Consideration for potential award recipients is limited to those students whose parent, grandparent or guardian is employed full-time by a CSPA member company. CSPA has nearly 250 member companies located across the U.S.

The scholarship was established to honor the memory of the late Murray Glauberman, as well as to commemorate the dedication and example he set for others. Prior to his passing Mr. Glauberman, the 1986 chairman of CSPA's Board of Directors, worked tirelessly on behalf of the household and institutional products industry, and made significant contributions toward achieving the association's goals for many years.

CSPA formally made the announcement at its Mid-Year Meeting on May 4, in Chicago. The CSPA Mid-Year Meeting is an annual event that attracts participation from hundreds of companies representing downstream manufacturers and marketers of household and institutional products.
