PME Provides Israel with Lake Monitoring Instrumentation for Water Quality Management
Precision Measurement Engineering (PME) recently provided the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institution (IOLR) with lake monitoring sensor instrumentation to collect various water and air data in Lake Kinneret.
Vista, CA, May 13, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Precision Measurement Engineering, Inc. (PME), an internationally known freshwater instrument design corporation recently provided Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research (IOLR) Institution with instrumentation that will constantly monitor water temperature and dissolved oxygen. Data will be available real-time and telemetered via GSM cell phone to a shore computer.
PME provided IOLR with a sensor string, called the T-Chain, that contains temperature and dissolved oxygen sensors, a data logger for telemetry, solar panel, GSM cell phone, data flow management and visualization software. This instrumentation is connected to a stationary buoy located on Lake Kinneret, the largest freshwater lake in Israel.
Dr. Werner Eckert, senior scientist with IOLR states, “We are pleased with the system because it allows us to monitor thermal stratification, internal waves and dissolved oxygen concentration real-time.”
The instrumentation provided by PME are allowing researchers at IOLR to monitor various lake dynamics. The T-Chain is deployed in the sublittoral zone of Lake Kinneret in order to monitor wind-induced internal waves. These so-called seiches in the sublittoral can reach amplitudes that exceed 10 meters. Lake data are important for understanding lake ecology and actions for sustainability.
