Precision Microdrives’ Adds 6mm PCB Mounted Vibration Motor to Its Pico Haptic™ Range
London, United Kingdom, May 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Precision Microdrives has recently included a 6mm through-hole PCB mounted vibrating motor with multi-mounting points for extra secure mounting, within it's Pico Haptic™ range of miniature vibration motors. This motor offers traditional through-hole mounting method of integration with a small amount of board real-estate. The vibrating motor can be soldered by hand or with wave soldering techniques. This vibrating motor also has a very low start voltage which makes it suitable for producing a wide range of vibration intensities and vibration intensity modulation.
Lots of applications can benefit from vibration based haptic feedback. For smaller motors like the 306-006, these are most likely to be handheld battery powered applications. Low voltage motors like the 306-006 are intended to be driven by 1 or 2 cell designs, but it is also common for them to be driven via an LDO voltage regulator for higher bus voltages, particularly in mobile phones.
The 306-006 through-hole PCB vibrating motor is rated at 1.5V DC with an operating range of 0.4 to 1.8V. This motor has a particularly low start voltage of 0.35V, which means that it is a good choice for applications where a wide range of vibration intensity would be useful. At 1.5V the motor produces a typical 0.75G (7.36 m/s²) of vibration at 10.5k RPM. Topology wise, the motor is a 3 pole coreless design with a toroidal neodymium magnetic. Current draw is typically 75mA, and the motor has a high efficiency with 7 g/W output. This stock motor has an environmental operating temperature of -20°C to +60°C, and runs with a low audible noise of less than 40dBA. Like most of Precision’s coreless Pico Haptic™ vibration motors, there is some scope for customisation and modification of operating characteristics and their engineering support team are on hand to advise and help.
This motor is a PCB mounted type and therefore it doesn't come with flying leads, but rather through-hole pins for electrical connection and secure mounting. Since this is a stocked part, it is also possible to buy these vibration motors off the shelf from 1+ quantities.
As a means to alerting operators, vibration haptic feedback is ideal. People have become used to the handy vibra-ring function in mobile phones, and many designers of other handheld products are now using vibration feedback as a way to differentiate their products against the competition. Some recent applications that Precision Microdrives have worked on, include metal detectors, heart rate monitors, RFID & barcode scanners, medical devices, gas detectors and torque wrenches. Except for the latter case, all these applications benefit from non-audible or visual feedback. Alarms where the user can't see a lamp or LED, and can't hear a speaker or buzzer.
Precision’s engineering support team is comprised of experts in the field of applied haptic feedback, particularly for handheld battery powered products, and they are on hand to help customers find the best vibration motor for their application. Through-hole vibrating motors are just part of a much wider range of 4mm to 7mm Pico Haptic™ vibration motors, which come in a wide range of form factors, such as PCB vibration motors and coin vibration motors.
About Precision Microdrives
Precision Microdrives carries the worlds most comprehensive range off-the-shelf range of DC vibration motors over 3 ranges, from 4mm diameter to 60mm diameter. All standard motors are available for same day dispatch, worldwide.
Precision Microdrives have successfully introduced many best practice methods of adding / integrating vibration motors into new and existing products, and their website www.precisionmicrodrives.com offers a lot of that detailed best practice knowledge freely for easy and quick viewing.
Precision Microdrvies have an experienced customer engineering support team that are here to help designers, engineers and production teams, as they integrate vibration feedback into their designs and products.
