Qualifying For Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlours Charity Ice Cream Eating Challenge Starts June 20 and Ends July 10 With The Championship Event July 17, 2011.
Mission Viejo, CA, May 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- If the words “Brain” and “Freeze” aren’t in your vocabulary, Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlors® is looking for you. Farrell’s will crown America’s 2011 fastest Ice Cream eaters this Summer at its 2nd Annual Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Eating Challenge benefiting CHOC® (Childrens Hospital of Orange County) and the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Qualifying rounds will be held from June 20 – July 10 at Farrell’s two Southern California locations in Mission Viejo and Santa Clarita. Guests will try to qualify by eating a 3-scoop sundae with chocolate, strawberry and pineapple toppings piled high with whipped cream. The 8 fastest in each category will be invited back to the July 17th Championship event in Mission Viejo. Winners will receive a Farrell’s trophy, a year of free ice cream from Farrell’s and the title of “Farrell’s 2011 Most Best and Fastest Ice Cream Eaters.”
This year’s Ice Cream Eating event will see an addition of two new categories: kid’s ages 9 to 15 and the “Big and the Small” category, which allows adults ages 16+ to team up and help a younger child that is 9 years or younger. In addition, Farrell’s also reduced the minimum age for the adult categories from 18 to 16 years of age.
Qualifying begins June 20 and continues daily until July 10 at Farrell’s in Mission Viejo and Santa Clarita. For a minimum registration donation of $20, contestants will receive a 3-scoop sundae to eat as fast as possible while a Farrell’s representative times them. In addition contestants receive a limited edition event t-shirt and a $5 off coupon toward a future visit to Farrell’s. The 8 fastest ice cream eating contestants in each category will be invited back to participate in the Farrell’s Championship event to be held on July 17 from 11am – 3pm at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Mission Viejo. 100% of the net proceeds from registration donations from this event will go to benefit CHOC and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
“Even though last year’s Ice Cream Eating Challenge was a blast and tons of people came out to try to qualify, we had an overwhelming request to lower the minimum age for contestants to that younger kids can participate. This Summer we added two new event categories so now the whole family can come in and participate,” said Michael Fleming, CEO, Parlour Enterprises, Inc. “Last year this wonderful event raised thousands of dollars for two fantastic charities. This year we want to raise even more money for the two great charities that Farrell’s loves to support; CHOC and Make-A-Wish,” Fleming added.
Categories for this year’s event consist of Individual Men’s Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 16+), Individual Women’s Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 16+), Kid’s One Person Jr. Pig’s Trough Challenge (ages 9-15), The Big and Small Pig’s Trough Challenge (2-persons, ages 16+ and 9 and under) and the 4-person Zoo Challenge.
Finalists who qualify for the Championship event, will race to see who is the fastest person or team in each category. Everyone will battle to be the first to completely finish a Farrell’s Pig’s Trough which consists of 6 scoops of ice cream, toppings and whipped cream. Except for the 4-person team that will race to eat a Farrell’s Zoo that includes over 30 scoops of ice cream, a variety of toppings and whipped cream.
Last year’s Champions consisted of Robert Caggiano who finished the Men’s Pig Trough Challenge in 1 minute 15 seconds, Tisha Stephens who finished the Women’s Pig Trough Challenge in 2 minutes 3 seconds, and team “3 Kids and an Old Guy” Eric Hall, Jordan Weis, Nick Johnson and Fawad Alvi from Orange County, finished the Zoo in 2 minutes 11 seconds.
The 2nd Annual Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Eating Challenge is sponsored by J. Hungerford Smith, Wild Rivers, Studio Three Sixty Marketing, K1 Speed, Advantage Mailing Inc., and Coca Cola.
