(AQE – TSX Venture), the premier recycler of industrial wastewater in North America, today announced that it has been chosen by The Artemis Project™ as a 2011 Top 50 Water Companies Competition winner. This is the second consecutive year Aqua-Pure has been named among the most innovative and promising companies in the water technologies industry.

Aqua-Pure has developed and refined its patented, industry-leading technology for recycling flowback and produced water over the past seven years in North Texas’ Barnett Shale. During that time, the Company, through its subsidiary Fountain Quail Water Management LLC, has recycled more than 700 million gallons of shale gas wastewater that would otherwise have been injected into disposal wells and permanently removed from the hydrological cycle. The company’s technology is also currently being utilized in the Marcellus Shale and plans are underway to expand into additional shale plays across North America this year.

Culled from over 200 nominations — a 30 percent increase from 2010 — the companies named to the 2011 Top 50 list are applying innovative technologies to provide more sustainable water management. They are helping to manage infrastructure, recover valuable resources from waste, and preserve natural ecosystems. They work in energy and consumption, in fields such as energy-efficient wastewater treatment, reverse osmosis desalination, smart watering, biosolids conversion to energy, pollutant biodegradation, and Software-as-a-Service solutions for monitoring water distribution networks.
