Dr. Mazza, President and CEO of Ornge, Speaks on Their Uniqueness in the Medical Transport Industry with Business Review Canada
Dr. Mazza, President and CEO of Ornge, speaks on how the company is responsible for medical transport to the critically injured by air and ground in Ontario.
San Diego, CA, May 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In a report in Business Review Canada, Dr. Mazza, President and CEO of Ornge, speaks on how the company is responsible for medical transport to the critically injured by air and ground in Ontario.
The biggest differentiator from Ornge and other transport medicine operators is that the company covers a province that is more than one million square kilometres in area, ranging from metropolitan downtown areas to more secluded locales. Ornge’s more than 400 employees include paramedics, paediatric transport paramedics, transport medicine physicians, and a team of educators and researchers. Ornge also owns and operates a fleet of Sikorsky S76 helicopters – which are in the process of being replaced by ten new AgustaWestland AW139 aircraft with an Aerolite-built medical interior – six Pilatus PC-12 airplanes and has access to more than 50 airplanes across Ontario.
“Ornge isn’t an ambulance service,” Dr. Chris Mazza says, President and CEO of Ornge. “It’s basically a system of connectivity that allows patients to move great distances effectively without ever leaving the hospital.” Dr. Mazza says they oftentimes use the terms “flying hospital” and “virtual hospital” when describing the company. “The level of care that’s provided in the mediums of transport that we offer has to be the same level of care from the hospital we just left.”
