Taxi Gourmet Tours Give Travelers a Taste of Berlin
Two food-savvy taxi drivers lead travelers to the most delicious spots in the German capital.
Berlin, Germany, May 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Nightlife, street art, techno music, and the Wall – Berlin has plenty of reasons to be famous, but food has never been one of them. Two cab drivers are determined to change that.
“We want to show people where the locals eat – and we want them to get a taste of what makes Berlin one of the most fascinating cities in the world right now,” says Layne Mosler, New York cab driver, food writer and co-founder of Taxi Gourmet Tours, a new Berlin-based culinary tour series inspired by her Taxi Gourmet blog.
In the summer of 2010, Mosler took her award-winning Taxi Gourmet blog from New York to Berlin, where cabbies showed her a new set of flavors – and a city in the process of solidifying its culinary identity.
“Taxi Gourmet Tours are inspired by all the delicious things I was initially surprised to find in Berlin,” Mosler, who has covered restaurants for New York magazine and Time Out, says, “And they’re literally driven by a Berlin cabbie who’s as passionate about food as I am.”
Mosler’s partner, an East German who came to Berlin the day after the Wall fell, is a Berlin cabbie and city guide who has spent the past 20 years documenting the fast-changing city.
“Flavors are changing as fast as everything else in Berlin, and restaurants are growing more vast and varied,” Mosler says, “You can find world-class Vietnamese curry here. And Sudanese falafel and bulgogi and tamales.”
“We can show people everything from Berliner curry wurst and perfect German bread to the best Turkish köfte,” she adds.
According to Mosler, besides leading people to some of the most delicious spots in Berlin, Taxi Gourmet Tours will give people a real sense of the city.
As passengers taxi from meal to meal, “we’ll stuff them with stories about Berlin as only a cabbie could tell them,” Mosler says, “No one knows a city better than a taxi driver. We want people to walk away from our tours feeling like they’re on intimate terms with Berlin.”
